Thanks for mentioning the Jewish New Year, Jak. So Rosh Hashanah is the beginning of the New Year, when, as the talmud says, God opens the Book of Life for the past year. This is a chance for us to look inside ourselves and sum up our misguided deeds, and literally throw them away. (Some people use breadcrumbs to represent mistakes or bad deeds, which they throw into a pond or lake). The end of the “High Holidays” ends with the most holy day of all, Yom Kippur, the Jewish day of mourning. On this day we ask our friends, families — even ourselves — for forgiveness. This act clears the book for a brand new year full of possibilities. Have a sweet new year everyone!
