Today we celebrate perhaps the most accomplished female musician of our generation. It is Carole King’s 75th birthday today.
Ms. King has written or co-written 118 songs that made the Billboard 100 and 61 hits on the British charts — everything from “Will You Love Me Tomorrow” in 1960 to numerous hits for artists in the 2000s. She is in the Songwriters’ Hall of Fame, the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame, she is a Kennedy Centre honoree, has a Hollywood Star, and won the 2013 US Congress Gershwin Award.
And had she done almost nothing other than record “Tapestry” — to me, one of the four or five greatest albums of all time –, she would always be remembered as a great.
