Missing Italian Day

This is the first year I have missed Italian Day. I was just not fit enough to get up the hill with any certainty of getting back. It’s a great shame, Italian Day being one of our most popular festivals on the Drive, even if it is driven by business. Last year they say we had 300,000 visitors: I remember the street being packed.

Hopefully by next weekend I will have recovered enough to attend Car Free Day which is my particular favourite. Car Free Day on the Drive is a more populist event, full of causes and fun, and far less oriented to making a quick buck. The cost of a booth is about one-tenth that demanded by the Italian Day folks.

Both days are wonderful celebrations of Commercial Drive, and I am sad to have missed one this year.
