Tone Deaf Planners

May 20, 2016

A number of people and organizations have expended a lot of energy to produce extensive technical briefs on problems with the development application for the parking lot behind 1102 Commercial.  Do you know what we each get in return:

“Thank you for your response to this public notification … You will be notified of the decision on this development proposal when it has been finalized.”

That’s it. No discussion, no debate, no questions about the technical issues raised. Nothing. Just

“You will be notified of the decision on this development proposal when it has been finalized.”

Widespread disquiet about the manner in which Planning handles public engagement has been public knowledge for many years now. Both the Mayor and the former Planning Director have publicly admitted flaws in the processes used. And yet still all we get is

“You will be notified of the decision on this development proposal when it has been finalized.”

Tone bloody deaf. And that’s being kind.
