School Closures in East Vancouver

April 3, 2016

The newly elected — and much improved — Board of the Grandview Woodland Area Council (GWAC) is kicking off its term with a timely and important discussion tomorrow night: The Future of Our Schools.

Speakers will include:

  • VSB Chair Mike Lombardi
  • VSB Vice Chair Janet Fraser
  • Farah Schroff of the District Parent Advisory Council, and
  • a student representative, Timme Zhao

As most will have read by now, there are serious threats to close a large number of schools in Vancouver, primarily due to lack of funding by the Provincial Government. In a release last week, GWAC President Dorothy Barkley said: “We want to know what’s happened in Vancouver to create this situation where schools could be closed. We want to know how this will impact Grandview Woodland and East Van, when decisions will be made and how we can minimize the impact on our community.”

This meeting, one of the monthly meetings that GWAC holds, is at 7:00pm on Monday 4th April in the Learning Resources Centre (under Britannia Library).  Everyone is welcome.
