Modern Life #1

October 18, 2015

The ever-loving and I went to the Dime for brunch today. There was good food at a great value and, for me at least, great beer.

There was a couple at the table next to ours; they were in their thirties, I would guess.  As soon as they sat down they both pulled out their phones and began surfing or texting or whatever it is people do with their thumbs on those things.  Apart from giving their order to the waitress they said nothing to each other or the world in general.  When the food came, they both put down their phones and ate, in complete silence. When they were done, they picked up their phones and continued their electronic lives. By the time we left they still hadn’t said a single word to each other.

The other oddity was that all five of the Dime’s TVs were showing the same baseball game. It took me a while to notice but I finally realized it was a game from the 1992 playoffs. Was there really nothing else on but a twenty-three year old baseball game?

Still the food and the beer were great.
