Saturday Afternoon In the Park

September 5, 2015

In the welcome and not too hot sun, I spent an hour or so crewing the NO TOWER Coalition table in Grandview Park today.  As usual, it was an invigorating and inspiring time.

During the hour I was on duty we collected twenty-five signatures on the petition and engaged in a bunch of lively and interesting debates with members of the neighbourhood. During that hour, one person (who didn’t stop to chat) said they supported the tower, and all of the rest said they didn’t.

At least two people mentioned the “cheap pamphlet” sent around by the tower proponents to every household in Grandview, and they both noted that the pamphlet never once mentions the 150-200 market condos that are the centrepiece, the entire raison d’etre, of the project.

It is a true joy to be thanked for our efforts by, quite literally, the man and woman on the street.

By the way, if you haven’t yet read “A Case For Keeping Space and Air“, you should.  It is very good.
