I am one who believes that the rights of minorities exist and must be respected whether or not the majority approves. That being said, we must heartily applaud the people of Ireland who have voted massively for LGBTQ equality.
They have bravely shucked off the depressingly heavy overcoat of centuries of anti-personnel Church teachings and can now bask in the sunshine of freedom and transparency. It is they and not the bishops who have taken to heart the teachings of Jesus to love thy neighbour as thyself.
Let’s raise a glass of Guinness and toast the people for their common sense and decency!
