The 10-Minute Walk Map

About a month ago, I was invited along with several others to meet some students working with the City Studio program.  These are folks working on creative ideas for Vancouver’s Greenest City project.  They were the group that placed the seat and viewing frame on the westside of Commercial and Adanac.

They met with us to discuss an idea they had: to create a map or something similar that would show places of interest in Grandview that could be reached within a 10-minute walk from a central point.  We suggested a lot of places and discussed a range of potential forms that the sign could take.

I went out for a walk this morning and — surprise, surprise! — found that yesterday they had placed their map near the walkway across Salsbury Park, just a hundred yards from my house.

It is an interesting addition to the neighbourhood.

Ahh, so that’s what they were doing there. I was walking by and they were having a bit of a party with food and drinks and people standing around and chatting.

Jak, what is the deal with this, I was walking by Salsbury park this afternoon and noticed the sign was gone. I remember seeing one over at the park on Kitchener too, but I am not sure if that is still there also. Were these only meant to be very temporary installations? That would be disappointing as the add a lot to the neighbourhood, in my opinion.

I too thought it was at least semi-permanent. I have emailed the relevant people and I’ll let you know what they have to say.

Well I have heard back from the City Studio folks as follows: “Unfortunately all four of our signs are missing, and we have no clue as to where they are. We are working with the city to find out if someone in Parks or Engineering took them out. We are working still to create a permanent instalment in Salsbury park.”
Hopefully they will find them and put them back up.

Cool, thanks for the update, I look forward to seeing them put back up.
