Historic Building Permits Available

Last night I went to the launching of the Vancouver City Archives/Heritage Vancouver project for putting Vancouver’s earliest building permits (1901-1921) on line as a resource for historians, genealogists, and anyone interested in their own house. The records include the cities of Vancouver, South Vancouver and Point Grey.

If you go to http://permits.heritagevancouver.org, you can seach by address, legal title, owner, architect and builder.

This has been  an epic project, hand transcribing more than inconsistently-written 20,000 records into a searchable database — all the work handled by volunteers over the last decade.  Well done to them!
