Vancouver’s Fog

Over the last few days, we have experienced very heavy fog.  Sometimes it lasts all day.  It makes for treacherous driving, but …

… what an incredible view!

This was apparently taken at 6am today from Cypress Mountain on Vancouver’s North Shore, looking down onto the city.  I am actively seeking the name of the photographer so that I can give proper credit (it seems to be a friend of a friend of a friend); but I did want to share this as soon as possible.

Update:   With heavy legwork by commenter Derek Miller, we can now suggest that this image is the work of Blair Kent.  It was taken about 7:30am on Sunday the 18th.  Great shot.

  1. The EXIF data on the photo indicates it was taken at 7:25 a.m. on Sunday the 18th. The photographer’s first name is apparently Blair, and a bit of Google Earth zooming tells me it was from the Cypress Mtn. switchback lookout, and the peaks in the distance are Stewart Mountain (left, near Bellingham, about 925 m high) and Mount Constitution on Orcas Island (right, about 725 m), both in the U.S.

    Wow x

  3. Further checking around, and Buzz Bishop found that Blair Kent did indeed take this exposure. An excellent job.

  4. Argh. I’m feeling like an obsessive douchebag, but there are actually two almost identical photos. Maybe from the same camera, maybe from two different cameras. But I made a movie showing how they differ:

I can’t say which is better, however, and it doesn’t matter.

    Amazing photo. Really.
